If you ask anyone about Jackie Chan, it’s almost impossible that no one would recognize the martial arts star and comedic actor. From starring in action-packed films to family comedies, Jackie Chan has proved to be one of the most versatile actors in the world. After starring in a throng of successful Asian and Hollywood films for the past five decades, it’s no surprise that Chan’s popularity has earned him numerous awards and even stars on the Hong Kong Avenue of Stars and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Let’s not forget that our very own government also awarded him a Datukship title.

Recently, he was granted another prestigious award that he can add to his long-list of accolades. Last Saturday became a historical day for Jackie Chan after he received an honorary Oscar for his decades of work in film. The award, which has been his dream ever since he first saw it at Sylvester Stallone’s house 23 years ago, was presented to him during the annual Governors Awards.

“After 56 years in the film industry, making more than 200 films, after so many bones, finally,” he said. Chan recalls asking his parents while watching the award show why he has never been awarded Hollywood’s top accolade despite starring in so many movies. He then thanked his fans for being the reason “I continue to make movies, jumping through windows, kicking and punching, breaking my bones.”

It was a trip down to memory lane during the star-studded gala night when the actor was introduced by his fellow co-star in Rush Hour, Chris Tucker. Besides Tucker, Malaysian actress, Michelle Yeoh and Toy Story star, Tom Hanks were also there to present him the award. Hanks took the opportunity to express his gratification in presenting Chan the award as martial arts and action comedy films were two genres that are often overlooked during awards season. He also referred Chan as “Jackie ‘Chantastic’ Chan.”

Well, Jackie Chan, your 23-year-old dream has finally come to life. Congratulations!
