In Malaysia, we have an abundance of hotels around the country to cater to local and international tourists. From ultra-fancy five star hotels to budget establishments, there’s always a place that could fit your budget or purpose. Some hotels may have excellent service and amenities, other may be lacking behind. But, do you know that there are certain hotels that have an ‘added value’ or ‘attraction’ to it? By attraction, we mean supernatural forces, unexplainable happenings or in other words, ghosts. Here are some actual ghost stories compiled by Rojak Daily. (Psst, try reading this in the middle of the night for that extra creepy feeling!)

#1 Hidden from Sight

During the holiday season, Kay* and her three friends decided to unwind and planned a beach getaway. They ended up booking their vacation at PD World Marina Resort for three days and two nights. After a late check in, the group decided to go out for dinner even though it was already 11pm. Kay and her friend was the first to leave the room and decided to wait for the rest at the elevator. As they were walking towards the elevator, Kay sensed something was about to go horribly wrong.

Both of them could not find any elevators despite walking back and forth from their room many times. After much frustration, they tried looking for the emergency staircase. But lo and behold, both elevators and emergency staircase had mysteriously disappeared. To make things worse, the other two friends who was supposed to meet them also got lost and couldn’t find a way out!

They tried locating each other and after about a dozen calls and messages, finally, Kay and her buddy was reunited with them. Although they managed to find each other, they were still ‘trapped’ on that floor. It seemed illogical that all the exits had magically vanished because they knew the floor had other occupants when they checked in.

After what seemed like an eternity, the group decided to head back to their room. They thought this whole traumatizing episode was over but not until they realized that they couldn’t find their room too! Whatever was messing with them decided to ‘hide’ their room as well. The excruciating search went on until the crack of dawn. Eventually, the call for prayer or as the Malays call it azan Subuh, was heard and they finally found their room and the elevators.

The gang immediately packed their bags, and checked out. It was not until they had left the building Kay discovered something that’ll probably haunt her for the rest of her life. Remember her other two friends that reunited with her earlier on? It wasn’t them. It turns out that the other two friends had actually found Kay and her friend much later then they thought.  So, who were the two friends that initially reunited with Kay? We’ll leave that to your imagination.

#2 The Unwanted Guest

Rabiatul* was assigned by her boss and two other male colleagues for a work-related trip to Kuantan. This meant that she had the hotel room at MS Garden Kuantan all to herself. After a long day of work, she headed back to her room to get some sleep. Her deep slumber was suddenly awakened by the sound of something knocking from the inside of the cupboard. The knocking sound was very piercing and consistent. It went on from 2am until 7am.

“At around 6am, ‘it’ probably got tired of playing with the cupboard and played with the bathroom door instead. The door was ajar and suddenly I could hear it being pushed back and forth. I had goosebumps and was really freaked out the whole night, but I didn’t have much choice and had to stay at the hotel until the next day.”

She also remembers seeing one of the rooms in the hotel being closed off with a white sheet. Whenever she passed by that room, it had this sinister vibe that gave her a spine-chilling feeling.

#3 The Invisible Top Floor

Sometimes, due to your job demands, you might be required to frequently travel across the country. This means you’ve probably stayed at countless of hotels and had some of the best or worse experiences. For Siti*, staying alone at her hotel room during office trips is nothing out of the normal.

“While I was in Kerteh, all of the hotels were fully booked and we had no choice but to stay at a budget hotel. My colleague and I got our rooms at the top floor of the hotel. During the wee hours of the morning, I could hear the sound of people playing marbles, cooking, and even washing the dishes coming from the ceiling. My colleague who was staying next door was very spooked and texted me asking if I heard all the noises coming from above. We immediately looked for another hotel that morning.”

#4 Cat Fight

During another office trip to Kemaman, Siti* also recalls hearing cats fighting in front of her hotel door. “We had arrived quite late and checked in at the strike of 12 midnight. After entering my room, I felt something amiss and the room had this eerie feeling. Around 2am, I could hear loud noises as if cats were fighting right in front of my room door. I peeked through the peep hole to see if any cats somehow got lost on my floor but there was nothing!

“I told my colleague let’s get the hell out of here the first thing in the morning and find another place. During checkout, we chatted with other guests and it turns out that they’ve experienced some paranormal activity during their stay too. Some said they felt like someone was watching them but there was actually no one. Others told us that they knew the hotel was haunted all along.”

#5 Who Ate My Chips?

Whenever Raj* travels, he has a habit of reading books while eating some snacks before going to bed. One day, he was travelling alone to Seremban and decided to stay at The Royale Bintang. As usual, he was enjoying burying his head in a book while munching on some chips. When he looked up to grab some more chips, he saw the chips strangely scattered all over his bed. It was as if someone else had eaten it.

“You can take the chips if you want, because I’m going to sleep now”, Raj bravely told the ‘thing’. The next morning, when he was about to check out, he told the ‘thing’ to not ‘follow’ him home and he’s ‘giving back’ the room to it. Well, at least now we know Raj’s middle name is fearless. Perhaps we could nominate him as the next member of the Ghostbusters?

Family vacations are something everyone looks forward to especially when it comes to sharing memorable moments with your loved ones. For Muhammad*, his family trip to Hotel Sri Malaysia, Lawas ended up being an unforgettable one. But for all the wrong reasons.

“I was really exhausted and looked forward to having a good night’s sleep. Suddenly I could feel an abnormal cold air sweeping into the room. The room was chilly but I could feel sweat trickling down my neck. I tried burying myself under the pillows and blanket to force myself to sleep, but it just wasn’t working. My heartbeat was racing, I knew ‘something’ else was in that room too.”

“I could feel like the bed sheets were being pulled, as if someone was playing around. Although I was creeped out, I got really annoyed because I was tired, so I braved myself to look what was bothering me. As I looked up, I saw something unexplainable sitting on top of the cupboard staring down at me. I instantly regretted it and immediately pulled the blanket over me and started reciting some holy verses. Since I was really worn out, I eventually dozed off. I still remember what it looks like until today.”

So, have you had any similar experiences in any of the hotels mentioned above? Or do you have any paranormal experiences in other hotel establishments that you’d like to share with us? Kindly share your story in the comments section below and we’ll add it to the list.
