What do you think of a six-hour train ride from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok? Following the announcement of the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) that will reduce the travel time between both cities to only 90 minutes, the State Railway of Thailand has proposed to the Malaysian railway authority to discuss the possibility of a HSR connecting the two capitals.

According to Governor Wuttichart Kanlayanamit, they will know by end of this week where and when the talks will be held, either in Malaysia or Thailand. Last week, Thai Transport Minister Arkom Termpittayapaisith announced that the proposed HSR could stretch as long as 1,400km and shorten the travel time between Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok to six hours.

The HSR link was mentioned during the Malaysia-Thailand annual consultation meeting here in September. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha agreed to conduct a feasibility study on the proposal as this HSR link would complement the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore HSR.

Let’s hope that the talks go well and we’ll soon be able to catch a quick train ride for our tomyum and mango sticky rice fix!
