To make matters worse, today happens to be the first day of the nationwide Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations. Candidates who live nearby the affected areas were faced with challenges to get to school on time. Some were trapped in their house as water levels were waist-deep while others had no transportation as their parents’ vehicles were partially submerged underwater.

Fire and Rescue department personnel were dispatched via boats to help transport the students that were sitting for their SPM. An SPM candidate, Nurisha Nasrul, 17, from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Abdullah Munshi told NST that she had to wade through flood waters prior to being picked up by the Fire and Rescue department boat. She had no choice but to make her way through waist-high waters to get to the rescue boat as her father’s car couldn’t pass through. She appeared to be very affected by the flood.
