PETALING JAYA: The “Sayangi Malaysia, Hapuskan Kleptokrasi” (Love Malaysia, End Kleptocracy) rally planned for Oct 14 is expected to draw 100,000 people, according to the organisers.
Amanah Youth deputy chief Faiz Fadzil Noor, who is among the organisers of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) event, said a team of medics would be present at the rally at Padang Timur here to ensure the safety of participants.
“We hope that as many Malaysians as possible come to this rally. We are expecting about 100,000 people.
“It will be a peaceful and safe rally,” he assured at a press conference at the PPBM headquarters here today.
PH is made up of PKR, DAP, Amanah and PPBM.
Faiz said the rally would have a carnival-like atmosphere, and take place from 4pm to midnight.
The programme will include activities such as talks featuring top PH leaders, cultural performances and a short film competition, along with 30 booths set aside for traders.
Faiz also said there would be an exhibition to explain the meaning of the term kleptocracy, which he noted was new to Malaysia but was widely used globally.
Asked whether a permit for the rally had been obtained, DAP Socialist Youth international secretary Howard Lee said PH had applied to the Petaling Jaya City Council, and the conditions to be fulfilled were not a problem.
“There is no problem in getting the approval,” he said, adding that there were no issues so far.
