Amanah urges Azmin to reconsider PAS’ position in Selangor govt

A motion to this effect is passed at Selangor Amanah convention today, reminding the MB that Pakatan Rakyat, which had included PAS previously, no longer exists.

azmin-amanahKUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor Amanah convention today approved a motion calling for Selangor MB Mohamed Azmin Ali to reconsider PAS’ position in the Selangor administration.

Ampang Amanah division chief Mohd Anuar Mohd Yusof, who tabled the motion, said this was in line with Pakatan Harapan’s presidential council’s decision to not work together with the Islamist party in the upcoming 14th general election.

“This is to ensure that PAS’ continued presence in the Selangor administration does not become a thorn in the flesh, which can then jeopardise efforts to defend the PH-led Selangor government in the next polls,” he said at the convention today.

The motion was subsequently debated by the delegates and passed.

When asked later on the reason behind bringing forward such a motion, Anuar said Pakatan Rakyat (PR) did not exist any more.

“By right, PAS should be out of the government. Their reps should not be holding state exco positions.

“People still think PAS is part of the Selangor government as they are still state executive councillors. They still have access to a budget to spend,” he said when contacted.

Anuar said it was now up to the party leadership to decide what to do.

PAS left the country’s main opposition partnership after PR crumbled in June 2015 following differences with DAP on the implementation of hudud.

The coalition has since been replaced by the Pakatan Harapan which now comprises DAP, PKR, Amanah and PPBM.

PAS, however, retained its political relationship with PKR, in Selangor, where its leaders are part of the state government.

Azmin had once said that the now-defunct PR is still alive in the Selangor government as it is a “mandate by the rakyat”.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng then had to remind Azmin that there was no more PR.
