A recent survey conducted by Bosch revealed that only one per cent of Malaysian women can confidently say that they are able to troubleshoot on their own when their vehicle breaks down.
Meanwhile, 48 per cent of Malaysian male drivers said they can do it without assistance. Not bad, guys.
The survey was done to learn more about Malaysian drivers' car battery management habits, as reported by Bernama.
Battery failure was found to be the common cause of many vehicle breakdowns here, whereas 70 per cent were caused by battery malfunction.
There were still many women drivers out there who don't know how to prevent car breakdowns caused by car batteries.
In fact, 84 per cent of them would turn to family and friends for help, while 12 per cent ended up calling auto assist organisations instead whenever they faced a problem with their vehicles.
Car breakdowns may seem like a problem that doesn't happen every day or one of those things that only happen to other people and not us, but ignorance can be a safety risk.
What if you get stranded alone somewhere with no phone signal and the next petrol station or commercial area is kilometres away?
This is why it is important for women to be more aware and gain more knowledge about their cars, and learn how to identify tell-tale signs of battery failure early. This goes the same to men as well.
Most drivers prefer maintenance-free car batteries rather than lead-acid batteries now because they are more powerful, comes with better and faster charging capacities and can last longer.
Lead-acid batteries require frequent maintenance, which can be a hassle. However, there is a significant number of drivers who still use them.
The survey revealed that 29 per cent of women drivers and 22.6 per cent of men were still using lead-acid batteries in their vehicles.
Bosch conducted this survey among 350 Malaysian drivers aged between 18 and 25.
So to all drivers out there, don't ignore your vehicles and think that you will always have somebody to assist you. It's better to be safe than sorry!
