KLANG: A security guard of a primary school in Sabak Bernam was charged in the Sessions Court here today with posting offensive remarks against the police on Facebook.
Shahrul Nizam Maskor, 39, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge read out before Judge Emelia Kaswati Mohamad Khalid.
He was charged with improper use of the network facility by knowingly making and initiating the transmission of offensive communications against the police force with the intention of annoying others, through a Facebook account under the name of “Tok Uban”.
Shahrul allegedly committed the offence at Sekolah Kebangsaan Simpang 4, Bagan Nakhoda Omar, Sabak Bernam, near here on March 10.
The charge under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, punishable under Section 233(3) of the Act, provides a maximum fine of up to RM50,000 or imprisonment for up to a year or both, upon conviction.
Defence counsel M Saravanan asked the court to set a low amount as bail, saying the accused was the sole breadwinner of his family, earning RM1,500 per month, and had to support his wife and four children.
Emelia Kaswati fixed bail at RM3,000 and set April 25 for re-mention.
Deputy public prosecutor Mahmoodah Ab Latiff prosecuted.
