Hazman Hassan says social media posts by the NGO have made it look as if the state government agencies are not doing their work.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Perlis Religious Department (JAIPS) has accused Perlis Hope of spreading hate on its Facebook page.
JAIPS director Hazman Hassan said by constantly posting about its charitable activities, the NGO had made it look as if the state government agencies responsible for taking care of the poor were not doing their work.
“Some of the comments posted by the public on these posts included things like ‘JAIPS only knows how to collect zakat but not distribute it’,” Hazman told the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) inquiry on the disappearance of Perlis activist Amri Che Mat.
Hazman said there were also social media posts that seemed to be preaching Shia Islam.
“One of the posts read that doing charity protects one on unlucky days.
“Sunni Muslims don’t believe in unlucky days.
“All days are blessings as far as Sunnis are concerned,” he said.
Hazman also denied that Perlis Hope’s posts on their charitable work had caused members of JAIPS to be envious.
“Not jealous… Only concerned whether they caused unrest among the public towards state government agencies,” he said.
Amri, who co-founded Perlis Hope, has been missing since Nov 24, 2016.
The Suhakam inquiry is also investigating the disappearance of Pastor Joshua Hilmy and his wife, Ruth. The couple were last seen on Nov 30, 2016.
The inquiry had also included the case of Pastor Raymond Koh, who has been missing since February last year after he was abducted by some 10 men in Petaling Jaya.
However, the inquiry could not continue with Koh’s case after a suspect was charged with kidnapping the pastor.
