Over the weekend, word about various crowdfunding efforts to help reduce Malaysia's RM1 trillion debt was popping up all over our social media feed.

One concerned Malaysian went the extra mile by setting up a campaign page to source for donations to help the government, namely the Ministry of Finance.

The page has received 94 backers so far.
However, many people were not very confident about crowdsourcing like this since it didn't originate from the government, especially when money is involved.

So after being informed about these efforts, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced today that the Cabinet has decided to put together a Tabung Harapan Malaysia (THM) where citizens can channel donations to.

This tabung will enable Malaysians to contribute to lessen the financial burden of our country that is currently at critical level.

According to a Bernama report, the government welcomes the patriotism of the people and would like to thank them by making sure that the funds land on the right hands.

The TBH will be managed the Ministry of Finance, as mentioned in a statement that was just released today.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng also said that all donations and contributions are to be made in Ringgit Malaysia (RM) only.

You may donate to the Malayan Banking Berhad account number - 566010626452.

Let's all save Malaysia together!
