Every woman has probably heard of Manolo Blahnik shoes. Even more so if you are a fan of the TV series Sex And The City, you would have noticed that Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) has an almost unhealthy fascination with her Manolos.

Malaysian fashionistas can now rejoice as the luxury shoe brand has finally opened its first store in Kuala Lumpur. Located at Pavilion KL, the 100sq m space uses a forest of bamboo as the central motif. The brand’s prized shoes are arranged in flowing lines and on individual brass shelves. The opening is part of an Asia development plan that also includes the refurbishment of its Singapore store, currently at Takashimaya, as well as the launch of a flagship store in Tokyo, Japan next year. The brand is working with luxury importer Bluebell on the projects.

The designer’s style, aesthetics and sense of humour resonate to create a space which reflects the originality of his eponymous shoes. Blahnik was born in Spain and has said to have learnt the art of making shoes by visiting factories and talking to machine operators, pattern cutters and technicians. Each design has remained recognisable as matchless, imitable exercises in precision and balance.

In Malaysia, the shoes are prices from RM4,000 upwards to RM8,000 or more. The current Autumn/Winter 2016 collection highlights elaborate beading and needlework, plus gilded brooches and buckles.
