It says offer is part of special discount policy for corporate and fleet sales customers, and it is common business practice in auto industry.
KUALA LUMPUR: Proton Holdings Bhd has clarified that its special discount for Federation of Hokkien Associations of Malaysia members, which has raised eyebrows, is not a special case.
The offer is part of a special discount policy for corporate and fleet sales customers.
It said it is a common business practice in the automotive industry to offer corporate sales discounts based on bulk purchases and fleet sales, the national automaker said in a statement today.
It was clarifying a Chinese daily report that Proton is offering discounts of between 5-10% on its entire range of cars for members of Federation of Hokkien Associations of Malaysia member guilds.
Proton said the special offer given to the Hokkien Federation formed part of the special corporate sales arrangement for fleet sales customers.
“Proton always provides corporate or fleet sales promotions to corporate customers, associations, organisations, and institutions (including media). Therefore, the Hokkien Federation is not a special case.”
It added that Proton has similar arrangements with various Malaysian cooperatives, associations as well as major corporate organisations.
“The Federation of Hokkien Associations of Malaysia approached us to discuss and show support for Proton with a commitment to purchase,” Proton said.
Based on the association’s large number of members and employees, Proton said it was able to customise a special package agreeable to both parties.
It said any cooperative, organisation or association that bought a certain number of cars was entitled to this corporate sales special arrangement, subject to terms and conditions between Proton and those involved.
“Proton highly values the support from these corporations and associations, and is committed to providing the best service and quality to all our customers.
“We appreciate the interest in Proton and we invite any association or corporation which would like to enjoy these benefits to contact us,” it said.
