The minister says the cub is healthy and being cared for very well by her mother and handlers at Zoo Negara.
KUALA LUMPUR: The second panda cub born six days ago at the National Zoo in Hulu Kelang, Selangor, is a female.
This was announced by Natural Resources and Environment Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar in a statement here today.
“I am very pleased to announce that the newly born Giant Panda is a female and weighs 190g.
“The baby is healthy and being cared for very well by her mother and handlers at Zoo Negara,” he said.
The giant panda couple in Malaysia, Xing Xing and Liang Liang, welcomed the birth of their second cub, on Jan 14.
It was born naturally at 7.50am, 89 days after insemination on Oct 18, 2017.
Their first cub, Nuan Nuan, was born on Aug 18, 2015, and could only stay in Malaysia for two years before being sent back to Chengdu, China, on Nov 14 last year.
This was because of the conditions in the contract with China which gifted the two giant pandas to Malaysia for a 10-year period from 2014.
