PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) confirmed today that an Umno division chief in Kuala Lumpur was detained early this morning after testing positive for drug use.
MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Azam Baki said the politician, who has a Datuk title, was among eight people detained in a joint operation by the agency and the police at 2am in a karaoke centre on Jalan Imbi, Kuala Lumpur.
Azam declined to name the politician but said he had tested positive for methamphetamine, popularly known as syabu.
“I understand his urine sample showed positive for the drug,” he told FMT when asked to comment on viral media reports of an Umno divisional head being detained last night.
Azam said MACC would leave further investigation of the case to the police.
He added that the politician would be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
