BN chairman: We don't need to bring busloads of people, unlike Pakatan's political game to create an illusion of strength.
BUTTERWORTH: Barisan Nasional chairman Najib Razak has made light of Pakatan Harapan’s political game of using imported crowds to create an illusion of strength.
He said BN did not need to bring busloads of people for its functions, unlike Pakatan Harapan who, he said, had transported hordes of outsiders into Putrajaya for a ceramah earlier this week.
“We are not importing people from outside to our events. But look at this crowd. Who says BN functions have no support? I do not see buses here. Well, one or two maybe.
“But in a ceramah in Putrajaya recently, I did not see faces of civil servants. I was told that the large crowd mostly comprised people who were from other places. Then they say Putrajaya supports him (Dr Mahathir Mohamad),” he said at a talk in Penaga here today.
He said the large crowd at Pakatan’s Putrajaya ceramah on Thursday was part of a “political game” by the opposition to create an illusion of strength.
As many as 10,000 people were said to have attended the ceramah which Pakatan supporters claimed to be a massive sign of civil servants’ support for the opposition.
Najib also criticised opposition politicians for not attending townhall sessions organised by 1MDB in the Klang Valley and Penang, despite being invited.
“Arul Kanda (1MDB’s chief executive) has gone to many places, but they did not turn up. Why can’t they question him in person?” he said about 1MDB’s critics who have mounted a campaign seeking Najib’s resignation for 1MDB’s financial problems and an alleged theft of more than US$1 billion from funds linked to 1MDB.
“We love to hear people getting criticised. They come up with a factory of lies, but when we want to explain, they do not turn up,” he said.
