‘Helpless’ Zuraida now says okay to Mahathir as PM

zuraidaAMPANG: Saying she is helpless and unable to go against a collective decision, PKR women’s chief Zuraida Kamaruddin today said she no longer opposed Pakatan Harapan’s move to name Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the coalition’s prime ministerial candidate.

“The decision has been made. I can’t do anything about it. What am I to do? If I were to voice out, how? Nothing can be done,” the Ampang MP told reporters, after launching the Ampang PKR’s election machinery tonight.

Zuraida said she now accepted that the decision was a collective decision.

“I’m in an organisation, so I am bound by the decision,” she said.

Zuraida, who is also the Selangor PKR deputy chief, was among those who expressed disappointment with PH’s announcement on Jan 7 to nominate Mahathir as prime minister should the coalition win the next general election.

She said the decision showed the coalition was still unable to name its candidate after 20 years of struggle.

“This is despite us winning in Selangor and Penang without PPBM back then,” she had told FMT.

Zuraida now said she would work hard to ensure victory for the coalition.

“That’s our goal, to win the elections,” she said.
