PETALING JAYA: PPBM has disallowed its members from making any remark on the Kelantan palace’s move to strip party chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad of the Darjah Kerabat Al-Yunusi royal award.

Its policy and strategy bureau chairman, Rais Hussin, said the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V, had the right to withdraw the award that was conferred by his father Sultan Ismail Petra to the former prime minister.

He said party members should refrain from airing their views and speculating about the action by Sultan Muhammad V, who is the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

“Please do not make any comment because it can be interpreted as seditious, however we may feel about it. God is our true protector,” the PPBM supreme council member said in a posting on Twitter today.

It was reported yesterday that Mahathir, 92, who is also Pakatan Harapan chairman, had received an official letter on the revocation on Tuesday and was in the process of handing back the award.

The award is limited to 25 recipients at any one time and usually reserved for royalty.

Mahathir, who was prime minister for 22 years until October 2003, was presented with the royal recognition in April 2002.

The palace had on Tuesday also withdrawn the “Datuk” titles of Amanah members Husam Musa and Wan Abdul Rahim Wan Abdullah, who were both formerly with PAS.

Husam, a former Kelantan state executive councillor, and Wan Abdul Rahim, a former state assembly speaker, were informed in letters from the state secretary that their Jiwa Mahkota Kelantan Yang Amat Mulia awards were revoked.

The duo said they had returned the royal awards and related letters of appointment to the palace yesterday.
