Business students from the Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) raised funds to buy an automated external defibrillator (AED) and install it on campus.
It is a portable device that delivers an electric shock through the chest to the heart following a sudden cardiac arrest, which usually happens when the heart malfunctions and stops beating unexpectedly.
The month-long fund raising project resulted in RM7,600 worth of funds and they were able to make the purchase at a discounted price, as reported by The Star.
The students also had the full support of their lecturers and various sponsors for this initiative. They felt that it was important to be prepared in case someone had a cardiac arrest there because it could lead to death if not treated immediately.
The AED was installed at the main building entrance. Besides serving the lecturers, staff and students on campus, the device will also serve communities living nearby.
Well done, TAR UC students!
