Hadi: Mahfuz talking like a snake-oil salesman

PAS president says Mahfuz is being 'childish' to say PAS took money, Takiyuddin challenges Mahfuz to lodge a report.

SHAH ALAM: PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has described as “childish” an allegation by former PAS vice-president Mahfuz Omar that PAS had received money from certain Umno leaders.

Abdul Hadi said that, logically, no political parties contesting in the general election would give money to their opponents.

“In the 14th general election, PAS will contest Umno’s seats, not DAP’s. And Umno gave us money to fight them? Only a snake oil salesman will say something like that,” he told a press conference after attending the Mega Town Hall Programme 2018 here last night.

In a recent ceramah in Padang Serai, Kedah, Mahfuz, who quit PAS on Dec 31 last year and joined Parti Amanah Negara, claimed that three Terengganu PAS leaders had received a sum of money from certain Umno leaders, which were deposited into a PAS account in March.

He also claimed that a sum of money was deposited into the Central PAS Development Division or Election Division’s account.

Meanwhile, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan challenged Mahfuz to lodge a report at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission if he had a basis for making that allegation.

“If he thinks it is true and there is an element of corruption, I dare him to report to the MACC. We don’t need to prove him wrong, he has to prove he’s right…this is a false allegation,” he added.
