Not only do we now have our first female Deputy Prime Minister, we also have the first female Chinese Deputy Chief Minister appointed in Sabah!

Christina Liew is said to be the first Chinese woman and the second woman in 24 years through the history of the Land Below the Wind to helm this role, according to The Star.

Besides working alongside Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal during this term, she wears many other hats as well.

She is the Member of Parliament representing Tawau, an Api Api assemblyman, the chairman of Sabah Pakatan Harapan, and most notably, the state's new Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister.

And here we are complaining with just one job.
Sabah is already a well-known tourist destination not just among locals but internationally as well, being home to some of the most beautiful islands in the world.

But Liew has plans to take the state's tourism industry a step further and focus not only on Kota Kinabalu and Semporna, but on other parts of Sabah as well, such as Sandakan and Tawau.

One of the efforts to drive tourism in both districts is by creating hotspots for visitors in those areas. For example, promoting Tawau as a hub for cheap and fresh seafood to attract tourists to stay longer before heading to the more popular destinations.

The ministry also plans to build more hotels to accommodate more visitors.

Liew added that doing so could accelerate the growth of the tourism industry, create more jobs, help the locals generate income and improve the economy.

Other than further developing Sabah's tourism, she has also pledged to increase protection for wildlife in Sabah.

In order to accomplish her new goals and fully commit to her new role, she has decided to quit her long career as a lawyer after practising for more than 20 years, as reported by The Star.

Well, we look forward to bercuti-cuti in new places in Sabah soon!
